Super Farming Boy Demo Update!


So... what's the news?

Well, we have a lot to share! Many things happened since Steam Next Fest... Super Farming Boy was awarded Best Mobile Game on The GDWC Winter Edition, we've been part of the official selection of Day of the Devs San Francisco Edition, and been nominated as Best Game Latam in Gamescom Latam! Also we've been featured on Latin American Showcase a few times and were part of XBOX Winter Demo Fest... also just announced as one of the official games of SXSW Sydney! But let's catch to the chase and go directly to the Demo updates!  

Demo update!

We've heard all your feedback, and we have a ton of updates to our current game. Here's a list of all comments and what we did with them!

"I would like more control options"

Answer: We've added a whole new, base, control, which is basically WASD + Mouse. It brings the best of both worlds: controlling the character and at the same time using the mouse to drag-and-drop seeds and helpers wherever you like! It feels like GOD mode actually... Also we made quite a few under the hood improvements to Mouse only and Gamepad controls, so they feel much better.

"I want to turn Full Screen off to stream properly"

Answer: We added the option to turn off Full Screen from the settings menu, in case you need to change monitors or do whatever you'd like with a windowed mode of the game.

"This shaking camera is making me dizzy..."

Answer: You can now turn Screen Shake off from Settings.

"Combos? What do you mean with combos?"

Answer: We had this very worrying feedback: people were enjoying the game, but weren't noticing that the game is about combos... which is a downer. This is because the combo-mechanics were not introduced properly in the game. We've added a whole new tutorial that explains combos briefly right from the start, and also added a few other things, like improved feedback while "inspecting crops" or manipulating crops, so you understand much better how combos affect your farm set-up.

"I'd like a bit more guidance in the game..."

Answer: We've added a To-Do List which's basically purpose is to have you focused on what to do next, learn comboes more efficiently, and learn how to play with the basic mechanics, but keeping it story oriented.

"The one-off crops feel a bit useless?"

Answer: We rebalanced the game so that one-off crops give much more reward, and are needed to get "reusable" crops (crops that regrow, like corn). Also changed the prices of practically all items on the game to improve economis/game balance and make the game much more fun to play.

"I like this! I want MORE!"

Answer: We added new features in this demo, most notable APPLE TREES and CROP EATERS (pests). These new features require to play with combos in a bit of puzzly, smarter way. It still feels very casual, but now you can do more intelligent, smarter, farm layouts/setups. Also it's super cool to see an apple tree combo go off!

IMPORTANT NOTE

Bare in mind that this new demo has a lot of updates and quite a different balance from the previous version, and we've made the difficult decision to NOT support older saves. Meaning, that the save you had will not carry on to this new demo, you'll need to start over. At the moment, the save of the demo will NOT carry over to the BASE GAME, because we are a small team and it requires for us to do a lot of work to have all working properly, and we are currently prioritizing working on new content and bigger bugs. Sorry for this! We hope we can do better by you in the future.

What's up next?

We are aiming towards an early access release on July or August, and working on more content. Most notably more Crop Eaters, a Boss Fight, and special mushroom powerups. We see how much of this we're able to include on the first early access release!
